THE VUVUZELAS

and Indian oceans meet. Walking through thick and humid jungle to reach the climb site. A series of postcard landscapes that

led German climber Ines Papert to the distant lands of South Africa. With Luka Lindic (Slovenia) and Paul McSorley (Canada),

they set off to conquer Slanghoek Peak. Opening a new route on this attractive mountain with excellent quality quartzite proved

to be a real challenge. After 520 meters, four days, and a bivouac en route at the second attempt, they now have a new line

on their outstanding climbing CVs. Say hello to Ruby Supernova (ED1 7b+), the second-ever route on Slanghoek Peak. "We also

explored other parts of the country. It holds enormous potential for exciting new routes." Ines returns with a great story from

the adventure, but above all a friendship: "My best memory will be Davies Hilton, a local climber and our new friend. As soon as

we met him, we knew he'd be a buddy. That's the best gift you can bring back from a trip."

Une paroi aux tons rougis surplombant un magnifique amphithéâtre naturel. Des couchers de soleil sur une étendue bleue où

se confondent océans Atlantique et Indien. La traversée d’une jungle dense et humide pour rejoindre le site de grimpe. Autant de

paysages de cartes postales qui ont mené l’Allemande Ines Papert sur les lointaines contrées sud-africaines. Avec Luka Lindic

(Slovène) et Paul Mc Sorley (Canadien), ils se sont attaqués au Slanghoek Peak. Ouvrir une nouvelle route sur cette attirante

montagne au quartz d’excellente qualité s’est avéré être un vrai challenge. 520 mètres, quatre jours et un bivouac dans la voie plus

tard, les voilà gratifiés d’une nouvelle ligne sur leurs CV de grimpeurs émérites. Ruby Supernova (ED1 7B+), est née, le deuxième

itinéraire de Slanghoek Peak. « Nous avons exploré d’autres lieux dans le pays. Il y a un gros potentiel pour réaliser des premières. »

De cette aventure, Ines ramène une histoire mais surtout une amitié : « mon meilleur souvenir restera Davies Hilton, un grimpeur

local, notre nouvel ami. Dès que nous l’avons rencontré nous avons su qu’il deviendrait un ami. C’est le plus beau cadeau que l’on

puisse ramener de voyage. »
