L’itinérance verticale de Christophe Dumarest
"Hard as a rock." This is the nickname of the latest Christophe Dumarest project, the Granite Tour.
The idea? 14 days to enchain ten iconic routes on the finest granite faces of the Mont Blanc massif.
The adventure of Dumarest and his Belgian accomplice, Sean Villanueva, could be compared to the
eventful life of a rock 'n' roll group. Here's the evidence to back it up. The pair were joined by the rest
of their band for some quality time together. Occasional climbing partners included steep slope skier
Vivian Bruchez, mountaineering friend Aymeric Clouet and photographer Marc Daviet. And for a tune,
the symphonic clanking of chocks, shoes and crampons gave a whole new meaning to rock music.
On the road, the shock duo also had their devoted fans. A mountain goat here, a bird there. And as
on any self-respecting tour, there were the inevitable hangers-on: the rain, wind and cold all wanted
to get in on the act. But that didn't panic the climbers, who saw their objective through to the end.
Stunning and different every day, the venues of these performances may have played an influential
role. Outstanding views just kept on coming. It was the first time that Christophe and Sean had
climbed together. Under the imposing gaze of the French peaks, a fine story of friendship was born.

L’idée ? 14 jours pour enchaîner dix voies mythiques dans les plus belles faces granitiques du massif
du Mont-Blanc. L’aventure de Dumarest et de son acolyte belge, Sean Villanueva, pourrait être
comparée aux péripéties d’un groupe de rock’n’roll. Preuves à l’appui : le duo a pu compter sur sa
fidèle bande pour partager quelques instants. Parmi les compagnons de cordée ponctuels, le skieur
de pente raide, Vivian Bruchez, l’ami alpiniste Aymeric Clouet et le photographe, Marc Daviet. En
guise de mélodie, le symphonique claquement des piolets, chaussons et crampons contre le rocher
a tenu ses promesses. En chemin, le duo de choc, a trouvé son public. Un bouquetin ici, un oiseau là.
Comme sur toute tournée qui se respecte, certains se sont tapés l’incruste : la pluie, le vent, le froid
voulaient être de la partie. Pas de quoi affoler les grimpeurs, qui sont allés au bout de leur objectif.
Magnifique et différent chaque jour, le théâtre de ces performances y est peut-être pour quelque
chose. Au fil des jours, les panoramas d’exception se sont succédés. C’était la première fois que
Christophe et Sean grimpaient ensemble. Sous le regard des imposants sommets français, une belle
histoire d’amitié est née.
