Au bout du bout
A Piolet d'Or is the reward for the first ascent of Cerro Riso Patron by
Antoine and his gang. A mountain at the end of the world which they
finally conquered, and not without difficulty after a first failed attempt.
An undefeated summit in Chile in a wildly remote region where the
slightest injury can turn to torture...
The southern summit had yet to be climbed. But then it hadn't counted
on the perseverance of Antoine Moineville and his comrades. A lover
of the mountains for their extreme character and a fan of everything
they have to give, Antoine is a guide, director of adventure films and
member of the "Flying Frenchies".
His opinion of this first? "An outrageous feat in one of the most hostile
places on earth." An exceptional break in the weather allowed them to
open a 1,000 m route on this 2,550 m summit with pitches of "vertical
ice", a sort of "highly dangerous plastered snow". The Piolet d'Or is the reward for this
massive show of commitment: in these regions at the end of the earth, ravaged by the
vagaries of the weather, there is not a living soul. Injury can mean running great risks in
a place like this, one of the most isolated and exposed in the country. And incidentally,
no helicopters can take off in the howling winds! Just so you know...
Un Piolet d'Or est venu récompensé la première ascension du Cerro Riso Patron par Antoine
et sa bande. Un sommet du bout du monde dont ils sont venus à bout, non sans mal
après une première tentative infructueuse. Un insoumis sommet du Chili, un territoire
hors du monde où la moindre blessure peut se transformer en torture... Le sommet Sud
était toujours vierge. C'était sans compter sur la persévérance d'Antoine Moineville et
ses compères. Amant de la montagne dans ses grandes largeurs et amateur de toutes
ses largesses, Antoine est guide, réalisateur de films d’aventure et fait partie des "Flying
Frenchies".
Cette première ? Une réalisation "très culottée dans l'un des endroits les plus hostiles du
monde." Une fenêtre météo exceptionnelle a permis l'ouverture d'une ligne de 1 000 m de
dénivelée sur ce sommet de 2 550 m comportant des longueurs de "givre vertical", une
sorte de "neige plâtrée très dangereuse". Le prix du Piolet d'Or récompense cet engagement
énorme : dans ces espaces du bout du monde, violentés par les aléas climatiques, on ne
trouve pas âme qui vive… Se blesser peut revenir à courir de gros risques dans cette zone,
l'une des plus isolées et exposées du pays. Accessoirement, il n'y a pas d'hélico qui puisse
décoller dans les vents déchaînés ! Juste au cas où…
