Seeing the dizzying faces of the Fox Jaw Cirque for the first time is a moment of high emotion.
Conditions on the two-day walk-in are challenging: fording streams and rivers in glacial water
of 2°C with a strong current. Their 50-kilo packs are loaded with gear for three weeks of
independent living, but they can’t afford to lose their balance. As well as their mountaineering,
climbing and camping gear, they also carry a large-bore rifle. Bears in the neighborhood
make this a necessity.
La découverte des faces vertigineuses de Fox’s Jaws est un vrai moment d’émotion. Deux
jours de marche révèlent des conditions difficiles : passages de guets et traversée de rivières
dans une eau glaciale à 2°C, avec du fort courant. Les sacs de 50 kilos sont chargés pour
trois semaines d’autonomie, mais aucun déséquilibre n’est permis. Au matériel d’alpinisme,
d’escalade et de camping s’ajoute le gros calibre en bandoulière. Présence d’ours dans les
parages oblige.
