How do you define Fabien Barel? This outstanding biker
is the embodiment of courage and one of the biggest
figures in mountain biking; his healthy body is combined
with a lively mind and rock-solid mental attitude.

le courage, il est l'une des plus grandes figures du VTT
avec un corps sain doublé d’un esprit vif et d’un mental
en acier inoxydable.
Fabien Barel has left his mark on the sport by winning the most
prestigious competitions, firstly in downhill (three world champion
titles) and now enduro. He's also made a massive contribution to the
development of equipment, bringing his skills as a technician to the
table. An insatiable sportsman who loves life as much as riding, Fabien's
passion for mountain biking knows no limits.
This passion has remained intact thanks to his legendary perseverance:
no injuries or defeats have ever been able to curb it. In fact, hard knocks
seem to have strengthened it. After breaking several bones, he was half
a pedal away from tragedy in Chile after a 10-meter fall. A fracture in
one of his thoracic vertebra brought him perilously close to losing the
use of his legs. With an iron will to get back on his bike and a bit of luck
later on (he realized just in time that he had to keep absolutely still),
Fabien returned to the race and won a podium place.
Fabien Barel a marqué son sport de son empreinte en remportant les
compétitions les plus prestigieuses, d'abord en descente (trois titres de
champion du monde) et, dorénavant, en enduro. Il a beaucoup apporté,
aussi, au développement du matériel, mettant à profit ses qualités de
technicien. Pratiquant insatiable qui aime autant la vie que le ride, Fabien
voue au VTT une passion sans borne. Une passion qui reste intacte grâce
à sa persévérance légendaire : aucune blessure, aucune défaite n'a jamais
réussi à la brider. Au contraire, les coups durs ont semblé la renforcer.
Après s’être brisé de nombreux os, il passe à une demi-pédale du drame
au Chili, sur une chute de 10 mètres. La fracture d’une vertèbre dorsale
manque de lui faire perdre l’usage de ses jambes. Une volonté inébranlable
de repartir et un soupçon de chance plus tard (il réalise à temps qu’il ne
faut plus bouger d’un orteil), Fabien revient et retrouve le podium.
